IWPG Global Region 7, Launches Peace Committees in Côte d’Ivoire and Mali

2026.04.21

On April 4 at 9:00 PM, International Women’s Peace Group(IWPG) Global Region 7(Regional Director, Eun Kyeong Kim) held an online inauguration ceremony for the Global Region 7 Peace Committee. A total of seven women participated—four from Côte d’Ivoire and three from Mali. Kassoum Coulibaly, CEO of Afrika Gender TV, also attended and expressed his support.

Konan Gladys of Côte d’Ivoire, president of FAFCO (the Federation of Women’s Associations in Cocody), successfully completed IWPG Peace Education (PLTE) with distinction in 2025. She shared, “Through IWPG, I experienced a profound transformation in my life. I hope to take on the challenge of bringing peace to both my community and my country.”

Korotoumou Koné of Mali is a leading activist in women’s rights, peacebuilding, and education. Since Global Region 7 signed an MOU in January with WiLDAF-AO (Women in Law and Development in Africa), she has continued active collaboration on the ground. She emphasized, “I have been thinking about how we can achieve peace as quickly as possible. Women are the ones who connect people. For women in Mali to share peace with the world wholeheartedly, they must first embrace peace within themselves.”

Kassoum Coulibaly, an expert in peace and security for women and children in Mali and CEO of Afrika Gender TV, attended as the only male participant to cover the event. He said, “I realized that our mission—supporting women and children affected by conflict through education—aligns closely with that of IWPG. I hope we can work together to bring peace to women across Africa.”

In her remarks, Eun Kyeong Kim, Regional Director of Global Region 7 stated, “A small effort to understand one another, a considerate word, and a single act of cooperation create peace. The Peace Committee will become a community that brings about greater change by gathering these small acts.”

IWPG operates “Peace Committees” around the world to advance its peace initiatives. Each committee is composed of at least three members and plans and implements IWPG’s programs and peace activities in ways that reflect the cultural and local context of each region.

In South Korea, where IWPG is headquartered, Peace Committees have been established down to the smallest administrative units nationwide. Through these committees, women across the country are joining IWPG as members. In this context, the launch of the committees in Côte d’Ivoire and Mali is particularly significant, marking the continued expansion of the Peace Committee system into Africa.
