Finding Courage in Everyday Choices: IWPG Peace Kafe in Prague

2026.10.07

Choosing the life one truly wants sometimes requires the courage to face opposition or negative reactions from others. In Prague, women came together to share their experiences and reflect on how everyday choices can affect both themselves and those around them.

On October 7, the Prague Branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), led by Branch Manager Karolína Fořtová, held a regular gathering under the theme “Peace Kafe: The Courage to Forge One’s Own Path.” The meeting aimed to help women reflect on the significance of their everyday choices and strengthen mutual support and solidarity among women at both local and global levels.

A total of six women attended, including Branch Manager Karolína Fořtová, team member Marcela Vebrová, and four other participants. The gathering began with an icebreaker to help participants get to know one another. They then shared updates from the 2026 International Women’s Peace Conference held in Korea and discussed the message that peace begins in everyday life and with the choices people make each day.

The participants also explored the stories of two women who had stood up for women’s rights and peace, reflecting on the values and courage that had shaped their own lives. They shared experiences of standing firm in their beliefs and making important decisions despite negative reactions from those around them.

One participant, Alena Davídková, shared how she had chosen to leave a well-paid position in pursuit of a happier life. Her story prompted a discussion about how a decision made for one’s own happiness can also inspire and positively influence other women. Participants agreed that a single courageous act can set further actions in motion and become a catalyst for change.

Toward the end of the gathering, participants considered the question, “How do I want others to remember me?” They shared the qualities they hoped to be remembered for, offering descriptions such as “a woman who loves life” and “a woman who found her worth.” By expressing these aspirations, the women reflected on their journeys and the lives they hope to lead, while encouraging one another.

Alena expressed her appreciation for the gathering, saying, “I had truly been looking forward to this meeting for two days. I’m so grateful to be among people who are accepting and non-judgmental, who listen attentively and are interested in the deeper things in life.” Viktoriia, a new participant, also said, “Thank you for the invitation. It was amazing.”

Through opportunities for women to share their experiences and values in an accepting environment, the IWPG Prague Branch continues to create space for mutual support and reflection on the meaning of peace in everyday life.
