Community Solidarity Against Domestic Violence: New York Branch Explores Cooperation Through Peace Education

2026.10.29

Domestic violence threatens women’s safety and dignity. Preventing abuse and supporting survivors require attention and cooperation from the wider community. The New York Branch of the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) met with local women’s organizations and community representatives to discuss domestic violence and explore opportunities for cooperation through its Peace Leadership Training & Education (PLTE) program.

On October 29, the IWPG New York Branch held a Domestic Violence Awareness Event. The event aimed to raise awareness of domestic violence in the New York area and strengthen ties with local women’s organizations. A total of 47 people attended, including IWPG representatives, community members, and representatives of partner organizations.

Speakers addressed domestic violence and the need to support women. The branch then introduced IWPG’s PLTE program and its major international activities, followed by a discussion on potential cooperation with local women’s organizations. Participants also shared their views during a question-and-answer session.

Several representatives of local women’s organizations expressed interest in PLTE and agreed to meet with IWPG in the future to discuss potential cooperation in greater detail.

Anysia Ngokila, head of the IWPG New York Branch, said, “Domestic violence is an issue that affects women in every community. Today’s speakers shared meaningful insights and demonstrated their willingness to work with IWPG.” She added, “The interest in PLTE is a meaningful step toward expanding IWPG peace education in New York.”
