2026.09.18

A new partnership aims to bring peace education to communities in Papua New Guinea, with a focus on women’s rights, mutual respect and understanding. On September 18, International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 11 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Voice for Change, a Papua New Guinea-based organization working on women’s rights and peace initiatives. The organization’s representative, Lilly, was visiting South Korea for the 2026 International Women’s Peace Conference.

The agreement establishes a foundation for cooperation between the two organizations to promote women’s rights and expand a culture of peace. Through peace education, both sides plan to raise awareness of women’s rights and peace, while encouraging mutual respect and understanding within local communities.

The two organizations plan to begin peace education activities in Papua New Guinea in the first week of November. The program aims to help community members better understand the importance of women’s rights and peace, and to encourage them to put these values into practice in their daily lives.

Voice for Change works to protect women’s rights and promote peace. Through the new agreement, the organization and IWPG have established a framework for cooperation in peace education, laying the groundwork for future activities in Papua New Guinea.

Jang Seon-hee, Director of IWPG Global Region 11, described the agreement as an important starting point for cooperation based on the two organizations’ shared values.

“This agreement marks a meaningful starting point for our cooperation, grounded in our shared commitment to women’s rights and peace,” Jang said. “We will continue working with Voice for Change through peace education so that more people can understand the importance of peace and put it into practice in their daily lives.”

Lilly, representative of Voice for Change, emphasized that protecting women’s rights and promoting peace are essential to Papua New Guinea’s sustainable development.

“Through our partnership with IWPG, we hope to expand access to peace education and help women and community members understand the importance of peace and put it into practice in their daily lives,” Lilly said.

Building on the agreement, the two organizations plan to work together to raise awareness in local communities and promote a culture of peace through the education program scheduled to begin in November. They also intend to continue cooperating on education and related initiatives to advance women’s rights and contribute to sustainable peace.
